This book, through photographs taken in the 1880s and 1890s represents the ultimate Hawaiian experience and art form: the Hula. The images shown here were gathered by the last monarch of Hawaii Queen Liliuokalani (1839–1917), who reigned from 1891_1893. The pictures were presented to her personal nurse as a token of her Aloha. Author Mark Blackburn takes a look at the fascinating life of the Queen through a brief history of her reign. The photographs are for the most part previously unknown and unpublished, and represent some of the most powerful and poignant images of Hula known to exist.
