Rare Mimbres “Horny Toad” Bowl - SOLD
Circa 1100 – 1300 AD
Published in the landmark book "Realistic Art and Times of the Mimbres Indian" in 1975, it was found by Jack Immon in the Old Town area of Southern New Mexico. What makes this bowl so special is the pointed arrow design incorporated with the bold use of negative space in the depiction of a horny toad. Intact, with absolutely no restoration, I deem this a true masterpiece of Mimbres art. There is much speculation as to how these bowls were used, but this will most likely always be shadowed in mystery adding to the magic of this object. It is of the utmost rarity and presents an opportunity to acquire an object of beauty in true museum quality.
