This very rare turquoise frog fetish has a well-worn, well-rubbed patina; it has been handled with care over several generations. Fetishes like this had magical universal power, and frogs especially so as they had been associated with water. They are often used in ceremonies assuring abundance of rain. In some cases they are also used as a fertility fetish and are often kept by women by their bed to assure pregnancy. Frogs and tadpoles represent the cycle of life. In closing, the sculptural qualities of this artifact are amazing and it is accompanied by the original, well-worn pouch in which it had been kept when not in use.
